There has been a lot of discussion about the Mexican flag incident at Klein Collins HS recently. An ExploreSpring.com reader sent me this email and I am curious as to what the readers of ExploreSpring.com think. The email reads as follows:
“I saw an article in the National News, that a school in your town had suspended a student for removing a Mexico Flag from being flown inside the school in a high place of honor.
My son lived in Spring for several years, and I have friends and relatives there, still – and I was shocked.
After all, if a school were to hang an American Flag that was, PHOTO WAS INCLUDED, I hate to tell you this, but the persons who did it would have been summarily executed as the Mexico Constitution demands. Except the police wouldn’t try too hard to rescue those folks from the mob that would “take care of it first” with govt blessings.
We understand many places in the USA have “SANCTUARY” attitudes towards Illegal Aliens – but it is hard to believe that they would go so far as to deliberately show the world they would rather belong to Mexico than to the USA.
Mexico would take a student who defended the Mexico flag from a foreign flag being flown disrespectfully in the place of the Mexican flag, and make a national hero of the student, but your local school administration has not seen fit to honor their own American citizenship.
I am wondering how the TOWN intends to respond to this.
Clearly, I do not want the school administration summarily executed as Mexico would do if that were a Mexico school, but just as clearly, I think it would be excruciatingly dangerous to have such unbalanced attitudes in the oversight of my own child’s or grandchildren’s education, and their physical safety for half the day, most of any given year.
In case anyone is interested, hanging the MEXICO flag is NOT just “honoring the illegal aliens over USA CITIZEN Hispanics or other Citizen students”, but actually goes much further, declaring Citizens of the USA to be of no consequence, not merely LESSER consequence, but most nations of the wold still legally and Constitutionally, have the same attitudes as Mexico that this would be Treason.
I would feel that would put my children and grandchildren into the center, as underage minors, in such a politically volatile hotspot that their very lives would be constantly in danger, and they would have no defense whatsoever from those who are supposed to be responsible for their care.
I am very concerned as a fellow Texan.
I want you to know that I have ALWAYS considered Spring to be one of the nicest communities in Texas, and always had before this considered family and friends in Spring to be fortunate in their beautiful surroundings.
I am in deep prayer for the safety for Spring, and hope that in these difficult times, that Spring enjoys an abiding security and steady course for a healthy and contented community.”
Klein ISD has issued a statement at the following link http://www.kleinisd.net/docs/53-KISD%20Statement%205-10-10.pdf.
What do you think?

Spring, Texas. ExploreSpring.com is dedicated to Putting Everything Spring at Your Fingertips! In an effort to meet that objective, ExploreSpring.com wants to know where to find the best breakfast in the Spring-Klein area. We just finished nominatations in our Happy Hour Awards and commence voting tomorrow, we are now accepting nominations for the Best Breakfast Restaurant.
So visit Best of Spring-Klein tomorrow to vote for your favorite Happy Hour Spot, and to nominate your favorite Breakfast Restaurant. Voting and nominations begin on Monday and End on Friday. Try and get at least 3 separate nominations to enhance your chances of being included in the Top 10.
Then by 8am Monday morning, you will be able to vote for your favorites if they made the top 10 list. You may vote only once in each category (we can tell if you try to stuff the ballot box) until Midnight, Friday. Let’s keep it fair: No voting for a place because you think the shop owner is hot or because your parents own the place. I’ll tally the votes and announce the winners the following Monday. Each week we will open up nominations for a new category and continue the process until the end of 2010. All winners will be features on the Best of Spring-Klein web site, have a logo to embed on their site recognizing them for their accomplishment and be included in the Best of 2010 magazine to be released at the beginning of 2011. More information will be release on it next month.

ANNOUNCING SPRING-KLEIN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE
2ND ANNUAL CHRISTMAS IN JULY GALA
The Chamber’s vision is to be the primary resource and support of area economic development and quality of life. Spring-Klein Chamber of Commerce’s (SKCC) annual fundraiser, The Gala Dinner and Auction, helps make that vision a reality.
The Christmas in July Gala is the premier social event of the season in Spring-Klein and is a festive evening of philanthropy, fine food, and fun, and a celebration of SKCC’s commitment to excellence and community. Imagine!–a gala dinner and auction–is SKCC’s largest fundraiser. It is always a sell-out.
Rejoice with us and take pleasure in a sumptuous evening basking in the festively adorned Shady Oaks, feasting on a sumptuous buffet featuring traditional Christmas Carvery, dancing to the live music from Braid. Enjoy the witty, yet encouraging words of Commissioner Jerry Eversole, and be a part of history as we recognize Spring-Klein’s first Business of the Year with the presentation of the “TONI” Award.

Businesses and individuals donate generously to the live auction hosted by the funny and charming Mark Moore, TAL#15019 offering an array of special experiences- trips, dinners, and unique events and items. On auction night, 150 attendees—dressed to the nines—engage in friendly competitive bidding. The event is conceived and run by an extraordinary cadre of volunteers whose dedicated support for the Chamber’s business, education programs infuses the evening with a wonderful spirit of philanthropy and community.

Doesn’t it seem like the Spring/Klein community is always fighting something. I haven’t been here long, but since I’ve been here there have been a couple of biggies that could affect the quality of this great community.
The latest is the low income housing project near Windrose, called Gosling Oaks. It has been stopped in the short term, but what about the long? To find out more visit Stop Gosling Oaks.
The first thing I remember was the Grand Parkway. This proposed highway, still on the books has been stalled but not stopped. It has already affected one neighborhood Lakes of Avalon Village. Here are a couple of links pertaining to this story. http://swamplot.com/tag/spring/, http://blogs.chron.com/springklein/2008/11/neighborhood_divide.html.
The problem with the Grand Parkway from what I can tell is that the zoning committee, who was aware of the plans to build the parkway years ago, did not reserve the land and prevent builders from building in the areas of the highway. Thereby creating problems for people who have now made there homes in its path unknowingly. There was a big movement here are some links http://mypeoplepc.com/members/chrisodonnell/stopthegrandparkway/, http://mypeoplepc.com/members/chrisodonnell/unitedtosaveourspring/id89.html, and http://corridornews.blogspot.com/2007/10/you-all-that-proposed-this-plan-you.html.
In 2004, a tar factory tried to co-locate its facilities with the cement plant next to the Villages of Northgate Crossing and behind Old Town Spring. I couldn’t find any links about it but I was at the town hall meeting where Representative Debbie Riddle brought in the county, and the builder. It appeared to the community that they used deceptive practices to post notices that were still within the letter of the law, but not the spirit of the law.
Last year, residents of Dove Meadows and Normandy Forest were not thrilled with the prospect of a bar being outside of their neighborhood, crime being the biggest concern. The bar did open and to my knowledge there haven’t been any problems, however, the community did not want it.
This is only what I know, but I have only been in Spring a few years. But rest assured that as the community continues to thrive, there will be more projects that the community may or may not agree with. There was a petition last year to get a line item on the ballot to incorporate Spring/Klein as it’s own city. This would provide for its own city government and as one item control its zoning.
Spring is a census-designated place (CDP) within the extraterritorial jurisdiction of Houston, not its own city (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Spring,_Texas). It seems to me that we should form as a Township, City, town, or something that gives us the ability to control our fate.
Please read Why Sign the Spring-Klein Cityhood Petition?, New Petition to Incorporate Spring-Klein as a City.
To sign the petition visit http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/spring-klein-petition.
