New Student Registration Schedule and Requirements

August 2, 2011

Houston – July 27, 2011 – Spring ISD has been preparing for increasing numbers of new students to enroll this school year. Parents or legal guardians who are needing to register a student who did not complete the 2010-11 school year in a Spring ISD school will need to accompany the student to the school for registration and provide the information listed below. Spring ISD will hold early registration for students new to the district from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Aug. 8, 10 and 12 and from noon to 7 p.m. Aug. 9 and 11.

Schools will be registering students daily before the start of school on Aug. 24, and we are hoping parents will take advantage of this opportunity to register early and not wait until the first day of school,” said Ann Sandoval, Spring ISD area superintendent.

• Proof of residence in Spring ISD (natural gas or electric bill or original lease agreement)

Klein ISD Stays On Track for Success

July 30, 2011

KISD scores in Math, Science and Social Studies increase

Spring, TX. Klein ISD saw district-wide improvement on the 2011 TAKS and was rated as Recognized for the third consecutive year, according to the report released by the Texas Education Agency (TEA). All 39 campuses also continued to successfully meet the State accountability standards, including 11 campuses receiving Exemplary status.

KISD student scores in math and science continue to improve, as 88 and 89 percent were reported passing in 2011, respectively. From 2009-2011, the district has had a three percent score increase in math, while marks in science have grown by five percent during the same time span. Additionally, student scores in social studies have also increased to 97 percent, while reading scores for all students maintained at an impressive 93 percent.

“Klein ISD is moving in a positive direction,” commented Dr. Jim Cain, superintendent at Klein ISD. “Our scores reflect the hard work and dedication by both our students and staff as we continue to work on becoming an Exemplary district. I applaud everyone’s effort and look forward to another successful year.”

Klein was also among the districts in the state to see increases in the graduation completion rates. TEA reported in May that the Class of 2010 soared to 84.3 percent statewide, the highest rate posted during the TAKS-testing era. KISD had a 92.6 percent completion rate, up from 91.7 percent in 2009.

This is the eighth year of the state accountability ratings, and more students across the state are passing the TAKS test and are graduating from high school than ever before. The calculating system changed and now includes 40 indicators used to determine ratings. The system currently rates more students than years past, and includes some students who previously have been omitted. For the first time since the TAKS program began, test results for all special education students are also included in the state accountability program.

Five base indicators are used to determine ratings: (1) percentage of students passing TAKS, (2) performance and progress of ELL students, (3) percentage of students scoring at commended performance levels on TAKS, (4) completion rate for 2010 graduating class, and (5) annual dropout rate for grades 7-8 during the 2009-2010 school year.

For a complete list of accountability ratings, visit http://ritter.tea.state.tx.us/perfreport/account/.
