Weighted Grade Point Averaging could be Removed for incoming 2009 Freshman in AP and Pre-AP Courses

October 7, 2008

A recent article released in Education Week, states that the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board, which oversees public colleges and universities, is expected to vote on a proposed rule at its Oct. 23 meeting that would require schools to compute GPAs by including only courses in English language arts, mathematics, science, social studies, and foreign languages. The grade point averages would have to be calculated on a four-point scale, with an extra point given only for Advanced Placement, International Baccalaureate, and dual-enrollment courses, which can permit college credit. To read the article in its entirety please click here.
