Early Registration Starts November 9 for Spring 2010 Semester at Lone Star College-Montgomery

Registration for spring 2010 classes begins Monday, November 9, at Lone Star College-Montgomery. For the best choice of courses, class times and particular days, early registration is strongly encouraged. First day of classes for the spring semester is Tuesday, January 19, 2010.

20th Annual GE Run Thru the Woods Thanksgiving Charity Event: Early Registration Deadline is November 12th!
JOIN THE FUN and RUN!A holiday tradition in The Woodlands Town Center, the annual Thanksgiving Day Run Thru the Woods Sponsored by GE, is a race/walk designed for all ages and levels of fitness. This year marks the event’s 20th year as one of Texas’ premier running and walking family events. The 2009 event which should attract more than 4500 participants is both a family event and a serious running event, enticing for the competitive and recreational runner.

YMCA Winter Youth Sports

The South Montgomery County YMCA is accepting registrations for the Winter Youth Basketball program. The Winter Sports to be offered include Basketball for ages 5 – 13; Volleyball for ages 8 – 13 and Indoor Soccer for ages 3 – 5. Age eligibility as of September 1, 2009. Registration Deadline is November 1st. Registrations received after Nov. 1st incur a late registration fee, Nov. 2 – 8. Season begins the week of the first week of December.

KISD Finance Department Recognized for Excellence

Klein, TX. The Texas Education Agency awarded the Klein Independent School District a Superior Achievement rating under the Texas’ Schools FIRST financial accountability system. This award for the 2007-2008 fiscal year is the seventh consecutive Superior Achievement Klein attained. Klein’s rating reflects the district’s financial management and reporting system.

How Will You Spend Halloween in Spring, Texas?

It’s October and that means it is time for you to plan your Halloween in Spring Texas. Are you a trying to figure out what’s going on for Halloween in and around Spring? Well I’m here to tell that, Spring-Klein area has lot’s to offer! Whether you’re big or small, into Halloween, or are searching for an alternative, you can take your kid’s out (or yourself) and have a great time.  I better warn you, Halloween in Spring will really be a weekend of incredible action so prepare yourself and make some plans now.

Need some ideas to help you prepare for Halloween in Spring? It’s not just a weekend it’s a month of Halloween events in the Spring area. See a few of these Halloween ideas below and then start planning your activities with a few Halloween events in mind.

For Family Fun all through the month, check out these great activities, Cypress United Methodist Church reprises its annual Pumpkin Patch 2009, which takes place on a daily basis beginning Sat, Oct 10, 2009 and continues until Sat, Oct 31, 2009. The Beneke Elementary to Host Fall Carnival takes place on Sat, Oct 17, 2009, and The Cynthia B. Woods Pavilion will hold its annual Houston Symphony’s Hocus Pocus Pops on Fri, Oct 23, 2009. On Sat, Oct 24, 2009, The Montgomery County YMCA will hold its annual Halloween at the YMCA. The fun continues on Halloween Weekend with the Founders Baptist Annual Fall Festival on Fri, Oct 30, 2009 and the WEE WUNS FALL FESTIVAL, on Sat, Oct 31, 2009.

For Adults looking to get in on the fun, consider Halloween in Spring at the Halloween Ball at Martini Blvd where you will have a chance to win cash prizes for the sexist, scariest, & most original costumes and enjoy the musical styling’s of Go DJ Fire. If you are into Haunted Houses, ScreamWorld Haunted House, is open until the first weekend in November.

And as always, there is trick or treating. No matter what activity you choose please use common sense and be sure to exercise these safety tips to be sure you have a safe Halloween:

  1. Use costumes that are bright and reflective and are flame retardent.
  2. Do not allow small children to trick or treat alone.
  3. Review safety rules, and guidelines with children before leaving home.
  4. Obtain flashlights with fresh batteries for all children and their escorts.
  5. Don’t allow kids to eat treats until a parent has check the items.
  6. Take a cell phone out with you.
  7. Don’t Drink and Drive.
  8. Have a designated driver or taxi cab company number in your cell phone.
  9. Use Common Sense.

Spring Texas News Update – 10/14/2009

KISD Bond Steering Committee Reconvenedering Committee Reconvened

Spring, TX. The 2007 Klein ISD Bond Steering Committee composed of parents, teachers, community members, and other district personnel will reconvene to consider future use of 2008 bond funds. The committee will consider the 2009 report from the Population and Survey Analysts (PASA) and the district’s current financial data. The committee will meet on November 10, November 16, and December 10 from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. in the board room of the KISD (7200 Spring Cypress Road, Klein 77379).

Major Elementary Dedication Scheduled for Oct. 19

Houston, TX. Spring ISD will hold a dedication ceremony for Helen Major Elementary School at 9:30 a.m. Monday, Oct. 19. The school opened in August 2009 at 16855 Sugar Pine Dr. just south of FM 1960 under the leadership of Principal J.C. Harville.

Tee Up for Education on Oct. 27

Spring, TX. Golf experience will not be required to have a good time at the Spring ISD Education Foundation Tee Up for Education Golf Tournament on Tuesday, Oct. 27 at Cypresswood Golf Club, 21602 Cypresswood Dr. Tournament organizers have planned an event that will offer something for everyone starting at noon with a shotgun start and ending with a dinner and silent auction at 5:30 p.m.

A Preview of Constituitional Amendments up for vote from Debbie Riddle

Austin, TX. Early voting for the upcoming constitutional amendments will start on Monday, October 19th and last until October 30th. Constitutional amendment ballots can be a little mysterious and intimidating sometimes, but they are just as important as any other election. The Texas Constitution is what protects your rights as a citizen of our Sovereign State, and it is important to be an active and informed participant in the process of making changes to this valuable document.

Veterans Day in the Klein ISD

Spring, TX. The Klein ISD invites members of the Klein community to the annual Veterans Day program on November 11 at Klein Memorial Stadium, 16715 Stuebner Airline Drive. The program to be presented by the Air Force Junior Reserve Officers Training Corps (JROTC) begins at 9:00 a.m. Veterans and active duty military personnel will be recognized. The Klein Forest High School Air Force JROTC will be responsible for the pass in review ceremony. The speaker for the program will be Mr. Jim McIngvale (Mattress Mack).

Astronaut Keynote Speaker for Third Annual Summit

Spring, TX. The North Harris County Branch American Association of University Women (AAUW) in conjunction with Klein Forest High School provided the 2009 Sophomore Summit to encourage tenth grade students to plan now for success. Kaiser Teacher Surprised by Visit from OfficeMax

Spring, TX. Kaiser Elementary School received a surprise visit on October 6 from OfficeMax as part of a nationwide event called “A Day Made Better.” Store manager Raul Herrera from the Willowbrook OfficeMax and employees Bobbie Douglan, Michael Behannon, and Adrian Swanson made the presentation to Ms. Krystie Marcis, the reading specialist of Kaiser.

Klein Teachers Prepare for Third Grade Field Trip

Spring, TX. Teachers from Klein ISD elementary schools attended an open house/training session at the Pearl Fincher Museum of the Fine Arts in preparation for this fall’s third grade field trip to the Cypress Creek Cultural Center. While at the Pearl Fincher Museum, teachers learned about the exhibit, “An American View: The Hosek Collection of American Art,” what goes on behind the scene at the museum to create an exhibit, and the on-going educational programs offered by the museum.

Duggan Baker Swam for US in Taiwan

Spring, TX. Duggan Baker, a senior at Klein High School, was one of ten U. S. swimmers who participated in the 2009 Deaflympics in Taiwan. He swims for Klein High School and the Premier Aquatic Club of Klein (PACK). He swam 14 times in seven days surpassing his personal best records in 13 of 14 events. Prior to the meets, Duggan and his teammates participated in a 10 day Deaflympics training camp.

Wunsche Accepting Applications for 2010-11 School Year

Spring, TX. Spring ISD students who are interested in attending Carl Wunsche Sr. High School during the 2010-11 school year may apply online now through Oct. 31. The application is available on the CWHS home page at academy.springisd.org. Klein Offers Peer Mediation Training

Spring, TX. As part of its multifaceted approach to creating safe schools, the Klein ISD offers peer mediation training so that staff members can lead students to solve disagreements before they escalate into discipline problems. In per mediation, students who are trained as mediators apply problem-solving strategies to assist their peers in settling disputes in a manner satisfying to all parties. A total of 25 campuses have participated in the training over the past two years.

Brad Froebel Leads on Campus and at District Level

Spring, TX. Mr. Brad Froebel serves as the Tiger Tribune newspaper and Legacy yearbook sponsor at Klein Collins High School. As the school’s first journalism teacher, he and his students have created a program that brings recognition to the school. He is also the chairperson of the Klein District Instructional Development Council (DIDC).

College Visits

Spring, TX. Students in Klein ISD will not be counted absent for up to two days during their eleventh and/or twelfth grade years, if they visit an accredited institution of higher education for the purpose of determining an interest in attending the institution. This change was adopted by the Texas Legislature and adopted as part of KISD policy.

Airport Employees Contribute to Ponderosa Food Pantry

Children’s Museum Visits Epps Island Parents

Klein Forest Volunteer Receives State Recognition

Spring, TX. Ms. Lucy Blome, a volunteer at Klein Forest High School, was recognized by the State Board of Education (SBOE) on September 18, as a Hero for Children. She was selected by Mr. Lawrence Allen Jr. who is the vice chair of the SBOE. As the District 4 board member, he represents about 1.4 million people in the Houston area in the Harris and Fort Bend counties.

KISD Students Achieve Success in Jazz Band Competition

Spring, TX. On September 21, students from the Klein ISD participated in the UIL Region Jazz Auditions. Of the 20 students selected for the all-region jazz band, eight were from Klein Forest High School and one was from Klein Collins High School. The Klein Forest students were as follows: Johan Webster, Ross Richardson, Zach Steele, Willy Vu, Trevor Mills, Josh Gu, Eric Spellman, and Patrick Williams. Chris Padilla of Klein Collins was his school’s student selected for the all-region jazz band.
