Hospital Auxiliary Awards Scholarships

The Volunteer Auxiliary at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands Hospital proudly presented 13 scholarships at its Junior Volunteer Banquet on April 15 to recognize academic achievement and dedication to the hospital’s volunteer program. Each year, the Auxiliary assigns dedicated funds for scholarships which graduating seniors can apply for during their senior year of high school. Awards were based on volunteer service at Memorial Hermann The Woodlands and in the community, leadership and character. A total of $15,000 was awarded in scholarships this year.

LSC-Montgomery Students ‘Hit the Nail on the Head’ As Habitat for Humanity Volunteers

Reading, writing, and…roofing? It doesn’t quite roll off the tongue, but it sure is a natural progression for the more than 65 students involved with Lone Star College-Montgomery’s Habitat For Humanity Volunteers. These students spend their time outside the classroom helping to build or renovate simple, decent, and affordable homes for low-income families in the area.

Lone Star College System signs pact with University of Maryland

HOUSTON – Lone Star College System announced that it has entered into a partnership with the University of Maryland University College that will allow LSCS students to seamlessly transfer credits into a variety of bachelor’s degree programs offered by UMUC.

Spring-Klein Chamber Celebrates Annual Christmas in July Gala with Special Guest Congressman Ted Poe

SKCC returns to Augusta Pines Banquet Hall for their third annual summer Christmas tradition in Spring, Texas

The Spring-Klein Chamber of Commerce (SKCC) announced today that their annual Christmas in July Gala will be celebrated on Friday, July 31, 2010 at 6:30 p.m at the Augusta Pines Savannahs, 18 Augusta Pines in Spring, Texas. Congressman Ted Poe will speak at the event as the Chamber’s special guest for the evening. “We are so appreciative of the continued support that we have received from our representatives and the community,” said Toni Richard, president and co-founder of the SKCC. “The Christmas in July Gala is becoming somewhat of a tradition hear in Spring and to enjoy it again at Augusta Pines where it first began really brings it full circle.”

College Teachers Conference Elects LSC-Montgomery English Professor as Councilor

Cliff Hudder, accomplished Lone Star College-Montgomery English professor, was recently named one of three new councilors elected for the Conference of College Teachers of English (CCTE) at its annual meeting this spring.

Register Now for YMCA Summer Youth Sports

Where Everyone Plays and Everyone Wins

Registrations are now open for YMCA summer sports. The sports to be offered include Baseball/ T-Ball for ages 3 – 11, Volleyball for ages 8 – 13 years, Basketball for ages 5 – 13 years and Indoor Soccer for ages 3 – 5 (Age eligibility as of 09-01-10) Early registration deadline is June 19. Registrations received after June 19th incur a late fee. The season is scheduled to begin July 10. Most games are played on Saturdays.

YMCA and Sonic help Students Reach their Academic Goals with Destination Y.M.C.A.

Destination Y.M.C.A, (Young Minds Can Achieve) is an incentive based learning program focusing on 3rd and 4th grade at risk children An important goal of the program is to help children learn to set goals for academic and personal improvement as well as improve TAKS scores. Students meeting their goals are able to participate in activities provided by the YMCA either on campus on in a camp setting. The year long program ends with a fun celebration off campus at the YMCA with students getting to choose the activities they participate in based on the goals they reached such as horseback riding, archery, swimming, climbing wall, golf, water slide, moon walk, sports etc . . . . The students arrive by bus and spend most of the day playing and celebrating their achievements.

3 RABBIS AND A CHALLAH

Spring, TX. On May 22, at Congregation Jewish Community North’s Annual Meeting and Dinner, they were blessed by the presence of having 3 Rabbis present. Outgoing Rabbi Seymour Rossel, incoming Rabbi Jonathan Siger and Rabbi Emeritus Robert Sharff blessed the challah while 130 congregants looked on while enjoying a complimentary dinner provided by the Board of Trustees as part of thanking and honoring the temple’s volunteers.

Rabbi Jonathan Siger leaves Florida Hillel for Congregation Jewish Community North in Spring Texas

Spring, TX. Rabbi Jonathan Siger, executive director of Central Florida Hillel, has accepted a position as rabbi of Congregation Jewish Community North, a Reform synagogue in Spring, Texas, near Houston. He and his wife Jennifer, along with three-year-old son Azi and baby daughter Gavi, will be moving in May, and he’ll start his new job at the beginning of June.
